The Top 3 Reasons to Buy (or Rent) Packing Boxes

If you ever moved house a few decades ago, you’d know that the packing boxes of choice were good old tea chests. Sure, they held plenty but they were heavy and had metal rims around the top that were a bit hazardous to the fingers.  Thank goodness packing boxes are now almost always cardboard cartons, and they come in such a variety of sizes that there’s one for every possible need.  Whether you need to pack precious items of jewellery or cocoon your flat screen TV in a big, sturdy cardboard moving box, there are more than enough options.

Thanks to a number of enterprising businesses that have sprung up over the years, you can usually purchase all your moving supplies in one place.  Not only will they sell – or rent – removal boxes, but they also offer a range of packing tape, packing materials and marking pens.

1.    Packing boxes in uniform shapes and sizes actually save you money!

Of course, if you really need to keep costs down, you can pick up boxes for packing for free at your local supermarket but these do have their drawbacks.  When you buy or rent cardboard moving boxes, you can choose them in a range of sizes so that when your removalists come to take your household contents away, they all stack beautifully in the back of the truck, and therefore save space, which saves you money!  Even if you have to put some of your packing boxes away in storage for a period of time, you can save money by using appropriately stackable sizes because then you can minimise the space required.

2.    Use new or rental removal boxes to motivate you to get on with it!

Another wonderful thing about buying or renting packing boxes instead of using free ones from the supermarket is that they really do inspire and motivate you to ‘get cracking and do your packing’! Moving house – or office – is truly one of the most stressful events in life. Knowing where to start is half the battle. Obviously, when you’re packing the entire contents of your household into piles of boxes, things can get pretty expensive. But if you invest in quality, task-appropriate moving supplies, not only will they do the right job and prevent breakages and losses, but you’ll even be able to re-sell them when you’re settled and recoup some of the costs!
